James Bruce

5. Abyssinia

Bruce's narrative takes place almost entirely in Abyssinia, and Abyssinia is the source of the sacred river, the Nile.

So perhaps Bruce is also the source of the idea of the Abyssinian maid playing her dulcimer later in the Coleridge's poem. Abyssinia is roughly the Ethiopia of today.
